1) Dragon Quest VII - Its a 100 hour game
2) Final fantasy XII - Another 100 doosey
3) ZHP - From the disgaea makers, took 80 hours

Yeah I am tempted to get Vita just for those new contents. And I couldn't believe I am doing this - but I bought a discounted copy of the Pal Disgaea 3 and trying to go through it quickly just to reclaim my DLCs LOL

oh and good luck with disgaea 3, the vita version truely does have more content

the vita version has

new characters, bosses
new items, weapons
4 new chapters
new tetra level spells

plus the ps3 dlc which itself included 20 characters, a new giant sub chapter ect

With regards to dragon quest X let me say this.

Its not really an mmo

The better term is online rpg

Why?

It has a single player story, you create your own party members like IX, you can control them, its turn based, ect

You can play the entire game from beginning of story, to end of story without seeing, talking to, or fighting with another human

Personally, I liked 13, I had no issues with it

Also, I am not sure if my posts are coming off anti you guys

You didnt hate on jrpgs so for that your cool with me

Ive always wanted to be apart of a podcast, since i own over 1k rpgs, have been importing for 20 years and i seem to be knowledgable lol

Dear Vampiric

The ones that you cited are no doubt great games from Square-Enix. Tactics Advance 2 enriched what's been built upon the FF Tactics franchise. Although some people criticized the story as not mature enough, in terms of gameplay it was great.

As for Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume (or something like that. Can't remember cos it's been some time since I played that game), while it is not exactly the kind of Valkyrie Profile game I was expected - the semi-tactics twists in gameplay, it was still a decent game. I personally prefer the original two Valkyrie Profile games a lot better.

I personally did not like the Star Ocean series, especially 4. I think 3 is pretty bearable but 4 is just not that great. When it comes to action RPGs I still prefer the Tales series a lot better.

The World Ends with You is something which I think does show that Square-Enix could still be innovative and fun at the same time.

This leads to what I think we were talking about our disappointment in the flag-ship numbered FF series. They were surely innovative, but were they something that long term FF fans would want to play? As we pointed out in our podcast, we would prefer Square-Enix to innovate and reach out through new franchises instead of messing up with core gameplays (in FF XIII case, the free roaming, story enriching side quests, shopping system and rewarding level grinding and material collection systems) of a flagship franchise that a lot of fans care about. Surely FF XIII sold loads to new gamers, but will that build a new core customer base for the series when current fans start to abandon the series? I think that is the question we were trying to raise. And this applies to the new Dragon Quest X, which I have reservations after Square-Enix abandoned Level 5 and try to develop it into a MMO type of RPG inhouse. The final product may change but I am certainly cautious about this.

I hope this helps clear things out a bit and really thank you for replying. We love every feedback from you guys because that what keeps us going with things that we are passionate about - games! :D

Heya, this is Phuong!

You are certainly right, Square Enix has made some incredible JRPG games not connected to their flagship series this gen. I guess Final Fantasy is the most well known one- someone who hasn't ever really delved into JRPGs before, but would like to try and get into it will probably think of the FF series first. The FF series is also the most accessible JRPG to most consumers. For more obscure series which haven't been advertised as much and therefore aren't as well known, it's much harder to obtain copies of these games, and so they aren't as popular. It doesn't mean their bad games, but it does mean that they're easy to overlook- which we did in this podcast, so my apologies. Maybe we were a bit too harsh on Square Enix in this podcast - there are many different development teams in the company, it doesn't seem fair of us to just criticize the entire company as a whole, although for the FF series, 13 really was a let down.Ahh, I spent a ridiculous amount of hours on FFTA2 and The World Ends With You! Maybe we can talk about them some more in the next podcast to redeem our views on Square Enix. Final Fantasy: Dimensions also looks like a very interesting venture. I haven't really played many iOS RPGs as I'd rather play RPGs on a handheld console, but I've heard there have been a few good ones out.Anyway, humongous reply. Haha, thank you very much for your comment and thank you for reminding this particular JRPG player that Square Enix has done other incredible stuff.I hope you'll tune in to future podcasts and leave more comments and feedback! :)

Hey, this Phuong- you're absolutely right, and I apologize for rambling on about them at the beginning of the podcast. They are very fantastic games though! Hopefully you enjoyed the on topic discussion in the later part of the podcast- we'll be much more on topic next time. ;)

I also recommend Suikoden 2 (consider the best in the series), even though I have not played it!!!....... It just so dam rare but I was able to follow up the story through some “Let Play walkthrough” on YouTube........

I recommend youtubing “Suikoden 2 Smapy”.....It has some wonderful voice dub, some light humour, as well as facts concerning the series...God bless them!!

I somehow like to participate in this podcast, but I just feel that I don’t have the depth in knowledge concerning this genre....I start many RPG games, but I just never able to complete any of them......The stories is always the sourpoint for most of them...

Yap, Suikoden 3 is my by far my favourite RPG of all time......I remember this series has always held my interest, till this day, in term of it memorable characters, loose continuation, great soundtrack as well as its twisting plot.....It just sad that this series is often overlook by other AAA titles such as Persona and Final Fantasy...... Didn’t touch the DS one, because it has no connection to the main series at all....
